Merritt Harris

Owner, Wealth Manager

Merritt Harris began his business career when he was a junior in high school, buying 50 head of bred cows. His dad owned a real estate business and ranch near Jay Em, Wyoming, and encouraged Merritt to buy the cows. That started his desire to run his own business.

After graduating from the University of Wyoming with a bachelor’s degree in finance, he joined what is now First Interstate Bank as an agricultural loan officer. During his nine years with First Interstate Bank, he advanced to vice president of agricultural lending, helping farmers and ranchers in northern Wyoming during the difficult years of the 80s and early 90s. In 1992, a friend of Merritt’s recruited him to the securities business, and Merritt went to work for Edward Jones in April of that year. Merritt built a strong business in Douglas, Wyoming, working with business owners, ranchers, and the hard-working men and women in the energy field.

In 2018, after 26 years, Merritt decided it was time to start his own financial management company. With the support of his wife, Kathi, he formed Merritt Wealth Management, which proudly serves the state of Wyoming.

Merritt was born and raised in Wyoming and comes from an agricultural background on both sides of his family. Merritt and Kathi have two sons, Ryan (deceased), Van, a daughter-in-law, Nicole, and two grandsons, Kaiden and Carson. He is an active member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association and the Wyoming Steer Ropers Association. He likes working with horses in the arena and the wilderness. Merritt and Kathi enjoy western art, music, and travel.
